Risk & Compliance Analyst

To proactively investigate, monitor and analyze financial activities and transactions to identify, or respond to, potential risks and/ or activities and transactions that appear to be suspicious and to recommend mitigation strategies to ensure compliance to relevant legislation and regulations.

 

The incumbent will be responsible for investigating alerts generated from relevant systems and those reported manually, and monitoring customers transactional behavior against the established profile for possible suspicious transactions. The incumbent is also responsible for helping the company comply with all anti-money laundering policies, rules and regulations

Responsibilities

  • Maintain legal and regulatory compliance.

  • Analyse data and computer systems to identify trends, develop business insights, and optimize processes, reduce risks, and create business strategies.

  • Monitor customer accounts and research transactions daily, weekly and monthly to identify suspicious activity in violation of Anti-Money Laundering (AML) regulations.

  • Analyse and report on compliance with Know Your Customer (KYC) protocols.

  • Review and investigate alerts generated from relevant systems, such as AML monitoring system, and those reported manually, and monitor customers transactional behaviour against the established profile for possible suspicious transactions; analyse questionable activity, as well as determine if an inquiry and/or investigation is required.

  • Investigate suspicious activity to pursue corrective action and/or to eliminate false positives and perform other compliance investigations based on client, regulatory and internal requirements.

  • Assist the Senior Risk and Compliance Officer to develop risk policies that enable the definition of risk, process guidelines and a systematic frame- work and approach to risk management within the company.

  • Create and review reports and trend analysis as required.

  • Conduct research on new technologies or techniques using online resources, databases, and other information sources.

Educational and experience requirements
  • NQF 6, a National Diploma in Risk Management, Law, Finance, Auditing, Compliance Management, or similar field.

  • 3 years in the financial services industry with an emphasis on regulatory frameworks and compliance in a corporate/commercial environment.

  • A professional Certification in Risk or Compliance and/ or a Certification as Anti-Money Laundering Specialist (CAMS) is an advantage.
