Head: Credit and Collection
To lead and optimize the company's credit risk management and collections functions. This strategic role is responsible for developing and executing credit policies, managing a team, and ensuring efficient loan evaluation, approval and monitoring processes, while safeguarding company cash flow by minimizing credit risk, reducing impairments and ensuring the timely collection of outstanding payments. By balancing risk and customer relationships, the Head of Credit and Collections will drive financial stability and contribute to the company’s overall growth and success.

Key performance areas

Strategic Planning & Leadership: Collaborate with the CEO to shape company strategies, develop departmental business plans, and ensure the successful implementation of these plans.

Systems & Process Development: Design and implement robust credit and collections systems, policies, and procedures to ensure operational efficiency and industry best practices.

Loan Evaluation & Approval: Oversee loan evaluation and approval processes, ensuring high levels of service, efficiency, and adherence to criteria.

Claims Management: Develop and refine the claims process, ensuring timely submission, adherence to contractual agreements, and optimal recovery from claims.

Collections Management: Lead the development of collections strategies and processes, ensuring accurate loan repayments and effective monitoring of collections activities and systems.

Arrears & Overdue Management: Manage the escalation of overdue loans, develop effective catch-up plans, and ensure that clients adhere to their repayment schedules.

Default & Recoveries Management: Establish and oversee processes for handling credit defaults, utilizing legal and non-legal recovery solutions as necessary.

Project Management: Initiate and manage key departmental projects, ensuring timely implementation, effective execution, and risk management.

Staff Leadership & Development: Lead, mentor, and develop the credit and collections team, ensuring continuous training, performance evaluations, and motivation.

Performance Monitoring & Reporting: Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) for credit, collections, and arrears management, ensuring alignment with company targets and objectives.
Skills, Knowledge & Personality requirements

Extensive experience in credit risk evaluation, collections strategies, and loan recovery processes.

Strong background in developing and optimizing credit and collections systems, policies, and procedures.

Exceptional leadership skills, with experience in managing and motivating a team toward high performance.

Strong ability to analyze financial data and provide actionable insights to senior management.
Educational and experience requirements

Bachelor’s degree in finance, Accounting, Business Administration, or a related field.

A professional qualification in credit management is an added advantage.

Minimum of 8-10 years of experience in retail credit or micro-finance and collections, with at least 5 years in a management role
